  • perhaps (formal)
    perhaps means the same as maybe. Perhaps is used especially in writing:
  • It was difficult to open the wooden door, perhaps because of the humidity.

  • probably
    used when saying that you are fairly sure something is true or will happen, although it is not completely definite. When you use probably you are more sure about something than when you say maybe or perhaps:
